Job Description
  Desired:



Solid C (and assembler) programming skills with proven experience of writing efficient code for low powered, memory constrained systems

Hands-on experience with chip bring up and sound knowledge of digital hardware along with ability to read board schematics



Strong Wi-Fi system knowledge with hands-on experience in design and development of MAC firmware

Experience in system architecture and design using established methodologies and practices



Conversant with embedded development tools, debuggers, protocol analyzers (OmniPeek, Wireshark), etc

Exposure to Unix/Linux build environments



Excellent trouble shooting and analytical skills that can be applied to resolve potential system issues

Experience with Perl, Python or similar scripting languages



Good understanding of chip development life cycle and exposure to various processor architectures and peripherals

Specification and Description Language (SDL) knowledge



Strong communication skills with ability to evaluate and create design documentation detailing complex features and relationships

Experience with Agile methodologies, specifically Scrum

Willing to travel to other CSR locations and customer sites for knowledge transfer and project cooperation
Desired Profile / Roles
  Job Purpose:



The role is to develop and maintain embedded software for CSR\\\'s range of Wireless LAN devices (IEEE 802.11). This involves coding in C and occasionally assembler within a resource constrained multi-processor environment. To develop new features and market driven enhancements to CSR\\\'s embedded Wireless LAN communications software stack. This will involve contact with the hardware and host software departments and occasionally suppliers and customers. He could also be required to take responsibility of delivering a major component of a project on a timescale agreed with the programme manager. This role also involves the mentoring of junior members of the team. 

Key Responsibilities:



· Interpret and implement functionality from and beyond the IEEE 802.11 / Wi-Fi Alliance standards through to delivery, maintenance and documentation

Perform requirements capture and technical feasibility of the firmware solution

Small scale software architecture and hardware/software interface definition

Detailed design of complex areas including enhancing and adapting existing design to suit chip requirements

Conducts peer software reviews and actively contributes towards improving quality developed by the team

Development and maintenance of on-chip embedded software including defect investigation and fixing

Original thought for solving complex problems in a tightly constrained embedded environment

Track hardware changes and understand impact on firmware

Task definition and work breakdown including time estimation

Creates relevant documentation following the department"s processes

Contribute towards the continuous development of the department"s processes

Assist/Lead external inter-operability and compliance test events

Liaison with customers (depending upon project)

Trains and coaches less experienced engineers

Stays current with firmware development methodologies

Participates in the recruiting and hiring process

Possible participation in external bodies such as the Wi-Fi Alliance
